We hope to acquire this parcel by the end of summer 2008 to begin work on the recreational park (labeled #1) in the Fall. The building in
which we hope to house our community center (#2) already exists, containing a reception area, classrooms, space for a computer lab,
storage, two restrooms, and mini-split AC units. The basketball court (#3) also exists, but could use rehabilitation. A BBQ and picnic area
(#4) is planned where families can gather and parents can observe their children no matter what area of the park they may be in. The
volleyball court (#5) will be available for daily use as well as tournament play. The jogging path (#6) will provide an area like no other in
Fatima, where folks can run, bike, or roller skate on a flat cement surface rather than on dirt and rock, and just as important, be free of the
threat of dogs which would otherwise chase and threaten them. The soccer field (#7) already exists, although it could use some work. The
baseball diamond (#8) already contains bleachers and dugout areas, which only need refurbishing. The skate park (#9) will function with
skateboards and safety gear that never leave the park, housed in a storage room of sporting goods that remain on the premises nightly.
Next to the basketball court is a house (not numbered), which we hope will eventually serve as a residence for an on-site manager who will
provide maintenance, security, and aid us with day to day operations of the park and community center.
If and when we have the commitment of land from the Guaymas city government, we’ll post a specific list of ways you can (as an individual
or a business) sponsor a specific facet of the park, such as the shade cover for the park equipment, fencing, lighting, swings, sporting
goods, picnic tables, etc. We’ll also post a list of various ways you can support the community center, from either donating your time one
afternoon a week to providing computers, school supplies, etc. This is an exciting project, one that offers opportunities to children who
would otherwise have few, and has the potential to change many lives for the better with educational and recreational activities. We
appreciate the support from so many of you out there! Stay tuned for more info.
Here is an “Artist’s Rendition” of the Castaway Kids proposed park and community center
in Fatima. The total land size is roughly 4.5 acres. Below is a detailed description.
